“This album really deserves to be listened to after The Last Dawn. Why? Because that album dovetails into this one. Where its twin is beautiful, elegant and reasonably optimistic, Rays of Darkness boils MONO's formula down to the core and gives a crushing listen full of appropriately dark tones that feel like the decaying echoes of a depressive state, even bordering on post-metal territory at times. Remarkably different, yet intrinsically tied to its twin: two halves of a complicated whole.”

“I love everything MONO do, every song is like a journey”
Electric Dreams · favourite track: Recoil, Ignite
“Achingly beautiful and yet raw like an exposed nerve. There is a much broader range of emotions on this album than the usual melancholy and sadness. The addition of Tetsu Fukugawa on “The Hand that Holds the Truth” is a jarring yet welcome shift in MONO’s sound, and “The Last Rays” sounds like dragging a rusty nail against an open wound. This may be MONO at their most bombastic.”
Kirk Gauthier · favourite track: Recoil, Ignite
“Between the two simultaneously released albums, I prefer this one. Not that it's a competition, I suppose...”

“If you're not familiar with Mono, you should really make it a point. Japanese shoegaze metal noise. I love them.”
