  • An excellent album with great composition and musicianship. The changing dynamics of pace, tone and volume are generally gently and wonderfully done. Favourite track is Karelia Opus 2, which flows almost seamlessly into The Kidnapper Ball. Especially great is 6 minutes into Karelia (Opus 2) where the piece quietens before launching into a siren of guitars - a dynamic they repeated to great effect with COM(?) on their follow-up album One More Step And You’ll Die.

  • Under the Pipal Tree is so different from the band's later releases, yet it's still a stunning debut. I find that many post-rock bands don't seem to hit their stride until their second or third album but MONO has been tier-one at their genre from the start. While the orchestrations are mostly absent here, the writing is unmistakably neoclassical, especially on songs like "Karelia (Opus 2)", "The Kidnapper Bell" and "Error #9". Borderline perfect release!

  • The first MONO album I ever heard and have been following along ever since. So glad it's been released on vinyl.
